This is how your dual study program in business administration works in practice
Your studies are completed after only 6 semesters plus a bachelor’s thesis (40 months). At the same time, you will complete your commercial education in your company during the first 3 years (shortened to 2.5 years). The dual study program combines these components by alternating between practical and theoretical phases.
This gives you the most important skills to excel in your field. After the dual study program, you will have fundamental knowledge of everything from technical skills to methodological and social skills, which you can then apply in practice in your company.
The dual study program ideally combines university studies with active company practice. Each of your practical phases will be optimally prepared so that you can deepen your knowledge even more and take on responsible tasks.
During your studies, exciting project work, business games, small group and team work, student-oriented research or analysis tasks and other innovative ways of imparting knowledge are part of your practice-oriented courses.
In addition to your professors, experienced practitioners from the business world will impart knowledge to you in a structured manner, offering you an intensive and very well supervised study program. Small groups allow for an optimal supervision ratio between you and your lecturer, so that you are sure to succeed!

Your studies are completed after 6 semesters plus a bachelor thesis (40 months).
Individual elective courses give you the opportunity to focus on specific areas and acquire all the most important skills. After graduation, you will have fundamental knowledge of everything from technical skills to methodological and social skills, which you can then apply in practice in your company.

Study business administration together & dual
With around 650 students on campus, the PHWT is a compact university. This is what makes the company and the relationship between professors and students so informal. Contact with lecturers is possible almost around the clock, whether by phone, email or team. In case of difficulties and problems, you can always rely on support from the university.
Thanks to the dual system of study programs at the PHWT, after 6 semesters you have both your IHK-approved education and a state-approved degree in your pocket. The theory blocks at the PHWT include the contents of the vocational school, so that you do not have to attend the vocational school and you have already obtained your professional qualifications after 2 years. In order to best prepare you for your future professional life – progressive and realistic – all module contents consist of modern research results.
Contents of the Business Administration program
The dual study program in business administration is divided into these 3 areas: Basic area, competence area and specialization area.
In addition to the teaching of quantitative methods for processing a wide variety of operational tasks, the teaching of social skills in particular is the focus of your education. The aim is to prepare you comprehensively for taking on specialist and management tasks.
The students learn to choose from a variety of relevant instruments according to the situation. Project work, business games, small group and team work, student-oriented research and analysis tasks and other innovative forms of knowledge transfer are an integral part of the seminar-based courses.
The dual study program in Business Administration opens up a very broad field of application in business practice and thus diverse and flexible career prospects, e.g. in the areas of:

- Organization and human resources management

Right at the beginning of the first theory phase, one is struck by the “familiar” way the lecturers treat the students. The lectures take place in small groups and therefore have a very pleasant atmosphere. There is also a friendly atmosphere among the students themselves. Also to the other
students, too, and they do a lot of things together.
In my opinion, a dual course of study at the PHWT is the perfect combination of
theoretical knowledge and its practical application in the company. I really enjoyed the topics I was taught and felt very comfortable at the PHWT.
