If you have always been interested in the interrelationships between technical and business processes in a company and would like to learn everything about internal company structures, then the dual study program in industrial engineering is just right for you.

The scientific methods for solving typical engineering problems learned during your studies will be implemented directly in the company during the practical phases and will thus be understood in depth. In addition, you can already earn your own money during your studies.

The content of the dual study program is fundamentally based on modern research results and enables very realistic teaching. In combination with the state-of-the-art laboratories at the PHWT, dual graduates can take on responsible tasks in companies directly after graduation and add significant value to their success.

What awaits you in your dual study program

Your studies are completed after 7 semesters plus the bachelor thesis (46 months). The dual study program in industrial engineering combines these components by alternating between practical and theoretical phases throughout the entire study period. This link is additionally supported by the preparation of practical transfer reports.

Individual elective courses give you the opportunity to focus on specific areas and acquire all the most important skills. 

After the dual study program, you will have fundamental knowledge of everything from technical competence to methodological and social competence, which you can then apply in practice in your company.

The dual study program in industrial engineering ideally combines university studies with active company practice. Each of your practical phases will be optimally prepared so that you can shine with your knowledge and take on responsible tasks.

During your studies you will be involved in exciting project work to build up interdisciplinary and transferable knowledge. 

In addition to your professors, experienced practitioners from business and technology will impart knowledge to you in a structured manner, offering you an intensive and very well supervised study program. Small groups allow for an optimal supervision ratio between the lecturers and you, so that you are sure to succeed!

Small groups allow for an optimal supervision ratio between the lecturers and you, so that you are sure to succeed!

The community spirit at the PHWT ensures a familiar atmosphere on the entire campus. Due to the compact size of the university, the lecturers are almost always available, whether in person, by e-mail, by phone or via Microsoft Teams.

If problems arise or difficulties arise in your studies or company, we will work together to find a solution. Your lecturers provide individual support to ensure that you are not left out in the cold and respond to your wishes and ideas.

These contents await you in the industrial engineering degree program

The industrial engineering program is divided into two areas: the mathematics, natural and engineering sciences area and the economics, law and social sciences area. The core and specialization areas will cover the already taught contents in more detail and in the 3 elective modules focal points will be chosen in order to develop in an individual direction and to further expand interests. Project work underpins this knowledge with personal experience and practical implementation.

All contents of the program are interdisciplinary technical and economic – this means that you learn both the basics of construction and at the same time deal with accounting and controlling topics. This will make you a sought-after all-rounder on the job market, who will be familiar with many areas in the company.

Right from the start, a lot of emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary application of knowledge, on networked, solution-oriented and socially competent thinking and acting. This is intended to develop and strengthen technical, methodological and social skills for a career as an industrial engineer at an early stage. Typical fields of application for an industrial engineer can be found in the following business sectors:

  • Sales and marketing
  • Logistics and materials management
  • Production and manufacturing
  • Quality management and
  • Finance and accounting.
